WELCOME TO THE PROCESS BLOG!

Greetings ART 2-4 and AP Studio Art,

The Purpose of this Blog is to make your Artistic Process and your Thinking Visible.

Here you will be posting written reflections, sketches, finished works of art, photos, videos and more.

You’ll be reflecting on your own work, giving feedback to your peers and receiving feedback from me.

Current Project:

“What Would An Artist Do?”

Students are working together in pairs using a TIME magazine cover as a prompt for beginning an artistic collaboration, and are capturing their process on 10′ long sheets of paper.

Midway into the project, Students chose one of Five ARTISTIC ORIENTATIONS, or paths, to guide them to the completion of the project which will consist of intermediate sketches.

5  Artistic Orientations:

1) Straight Observation

2) Experimentation

3) Exploring Other Perspectives

4)Persuading the Viewer

5) Constructing a Narrative

IN ADDITION-we discussed how artists engage in many types of PROACTIVE THINKING. SUCH AS:

  • EXPLORING
  • ENVISIONING
  • CONNECTING WITH
  • COMMENTING ON
  • CRITICIZING
  • ENGAGED OBSERVING (SEEING/UNDERSTANDING)
  • COMPARING
  • CONTRASTING
  • CREATING HYBRIDS
  • DISTORTING
  • JUXTAPOSING
  • EXPRESSING

  2. 1) It seems to me that I have been developing craft the most so far this year. For example, before this year I was not much of a painter, but recently I have been practicing at it and now come to prefer it. More importantly, whenever I do any project, I have used my scketches not only to add ideas, but to use each sketch as an improvement of the previous one and to add ideas that eventually become my final piece.

    2) Doing sketches and reflections in the process journal helps me to come up with new ideas for pieces I am currently doing, as well as for future ideas for future pieces. For this the sketches are the most reliable. I try to add on and reinvent the ideas that I come up with while finding new ideas as well.
The reflections allow me not only to do what I mentioned before but also to find ways to improve on my ideas. When I feel that something in a piece needs improvement, then my reflections will clarify them. Because of this, I can remember to do whatever it is I need to improve.

    3) In an effort to be aware of my artistic process, usually I find that it holds me back from producing a piece. I think that any project turns out best when alot of the thoughts that come to it are impulsive and not premeditated. However, when reflecting on the piece, it helps to be aware of your process. That is the time when being aware of what you did to make the piece is best used.

  3. 1)This year as an art 2 student I have learned from using my own process journal. My favorite technique to use in my sketchbook is engage and persists, because once i start a piece i can develop the piece into a work of art. This is the main way that i use the process journal.

2)The way that the blog and sketchbook have played an important role in the creation of my art is through the developmental process. the sketch book and blog website offer me these various forms of development because i am able to reflect on my work by reviewing or seeing what i wrote during the steps of creating my work. From my experience an art project grows in scale with the train of though of my mind. If i have a big train of though then i have a larger criteria of material to use to develop my piece.

    3) When i make an effort to be aware of my artistic process during the middle of my work by writing it i can get side tracked very easily and then i wind up talking to joseph. the only way that i can be aware of my process but no be side tracked is to NOT write it during the middle of my work.

  5. 1.)Observing for me has been a big help for me this year by looking at other people work and looking at deeper meaning into drawings. This year stretching and exploring for me and went big in my eyes because of how much i am trying to be a better drawer as well as how much i improved. I also drew a lot of things i did not feel comfortable with and made them into one of my stronger points.

2)I think about when I reflect on my sketches is that i should be more creative when I color my project and my g radiation but i notice every time i get better at my drawing as well as coloring.

3)When I try drawing I see i have potential of drawing nicer and improving on my work. I am even proud of myself for improving by becoming a better artist both mentally and physically

  6. 1) This year, I learned that the Studio Habit that I use most of the time is Envisioning. I always try to think where to put things (composition) to make the piece look good and balanced and imagine how it would look like.

    2) The process journal and the blog made me more aware of the process I use when making an art project. The journal and the blog both help me get ideas for future projects.

    3) Being aware of my artistic process makes it easier for me to write journal and blog entries.

  7. 1. this yeari learned a lot about my own process of thinking when planning, making, and looking at art works. I mainly used engage and persist on most of the projects for example on the tag project i was having such a hard time trying to make letters look 3-D and flow at the same time so i overcame my problem by deciding words werent working for me but shapes were more my style of tagging. I also noticed that in my artworks i try and make it look like how i feel and how to express or convey what i feel about the project or that week. I definitely stretch and explore with my ideas like more on go with the flow type of the things and learn from my mistakes or just make it look better.
    2. the reflections/sketches just help me on envisioning my thinking process on how my artwork will look like or where the pieces go onto the paper, what fits and look good; it helps me express what i want people to notice about my work. the way i do my work in class is mainly a trial and error type of thing’ i take one part of a piece that i didnt like and combine it into another piece that would be missing something.
    3. When i am aware of my artistic process its like im in my on world of thought, very focused and concentrated that nothing else matters and its like my mind shuts off of other thoughts that would be bugging me and it just focuses on art.

  8. 1. What I have learned this year about my own process the most is engaging and persisting and expressing. I learned that my emotions can really be expressed on paper. I also learned that sketching really helps. I realized that the time I put into sketching is not a waste. That if I stick to sketching, then my final piece will turn out better. I’m thinking more about composition this year too. I can really picture what it’ll look like before I draw it. I’m also learning about reflecting. After I draw it, I look back on it and see if the emotions I’m trying to portray is obvious or not.
    2. I think that my reflections in my sketchbook are a very important thing for my projects. It lets me see on paper what my feelings and thoughts are. And I choose which emotion I want to put on my projects. I also like to work with no distractions. So I tend to listen to music while I work. So I won’t forget my envision of what my projects are supposed to look like.
    3. When I make an effort to be aware of my artistic process. I think my symbols and metaphors are more clear to my audience.

  9. 1.We chose the fight between Israelis & Palestinians. We chose it because it is something that is happening now. We also chose it because these countries have been fighting for centuries.

2.The meaning of our art work shows that the Jews are doing what the Nazi’s did. It is all about why the Jew’s are attacking and it is just showing that they have no reason why they are fighting. It also shows both perspectives and opinions of both sides.

3.We used a lot of other peoples perspectives and what the Muslims think of Jews and what the Jews think of Muslims. We couldn’t find any Jewish people, so what we did was we went to websites to see what people say about the conflict between Muslims and Palestinians.

4.So far as proactive thinking we used a lot of exploring, envisioning, and a lot of observing. We explored peoples thoughts about the conflict and we explored the internet on people who debate about the conflict. So far as in envisioning we thought about drawings like putting a yam aka on top of Hitlers head showing a message and we also use objects like spaceships that have Nazi’s signs and the Jewish symbol showing a message that the Jews are repeating what the Nazi’s are doing. We observed a lot of peoples opinions and we observed what people put on the internet about Muslims and Jews and how they have been rivalries for the longest time.
